Why Use Technology in the class
I remember the way I learned English, it was so boring! All my professors gave us lectures, a lot of reading homework, and grammar. Specifically, I remember my grammar teacher, I loved her but when she started to talk, I got asleep so easily but not because of her, it was because of the way she teaches, giving lectures, some exercises, and the final test. She didn’t apply any interesting activity applying technology. I remember how our cellphones are "the evil" for our teachers. They don’t look for a way to use them for the benefit of the class. Despite this experience, when I started to work as an English teacher, I did the same thing; I gave lectures and a lot of explicit grammar. I did it because it worked for me, I learned to speak the target language, yes! But I completely forgot about how boring it is. I didn’t know how motivating technology can be in my classes. When I started this Master program, I learned about many different programs that I can use in my class. I applied some of them in my class and I could realize the difference between using and not using technology in the learning process. When I use some technology, my students are more motivated and attentive about what is happening in the class, even, me. So, we are living in the 21st century, technology is everywhere! We must take advantage of it but we must be clear, it doesn’t work by itself. In my opinion, we must integrate the traditional way of teaching with technology; we are going to have great results.
My Biggest Challenge
My biggest challenges for using technology in my class is more frequently at the public school. The public school doesn’t have a good internet connection, projectors in the classrooms, and the majority of students don’t have access to technology. I have tried to solve these problems. For example, I bought my projector in order to save time avoiding write on the board and showing some images, videos, and audios. Also, I use the internet connection from my cellphone when the internet connection from the school is not working (the majority of the time). I know that many of my students don’t have access to technology, so I carry my 2 computers or when the computer lab is empty I go with my students there. But this solution can be risky for me.
