Why Use Technology in the class

I remember the way I learned English, it was so boring! All my professors gave us lectures, a lot of reading homework, and grammar. Specifically, I remember my grammar teacher, I loved her but when she started to talk, I got asleep so easily but not because of her, it was because of the way she teaches, giving lectures, some exercises, and the final test. She didn’t apply any interesting activity applying technology. I remember how our cellphones are "the evil" for our teachers. They don’t look for a way to use them for the benefit of the class. Despite this experience, when I started to work as an English teacher, I did the same thing; I gave lectures and a lot of explicit grammar. I did it because it worked for me, I learned to speak the target language, yes! But I completely forgot about how boring it is. I didn’t know how motivating technology can be in my classes. When I started this Master program, I learned about many different programs that I can use in my class. I applied some of them in my class and I could realize the difference between using and not using technology in the learning process. When I use some technology, my students are more motivated and attentive about what is happening in the class, even, me. So, we are living in the 21st century, technology is everywhere! We must take advantage of it but we must be clear, it doesn’t work by itself. In my opinion, we must integrate the traditional way of teaching with technology; we are going to have great results.

  1. Hi Shamir
It is a fact that teachers make a difference and we always should be very dynamic and var methodologies in the classroom. We can help them improve their motivation to learn the language and use technology so that within their sympathy for technological devices and applications they can learn in a more meaningful way.

  2. By the time we were teenagers and we began learning how to speak our L2, technology began to appear. There were some traditional teachers who disagreed about using cellphones or desktops.
We know the benefits of using technology for the teaching and learning process now.
Thouesny, S. and Bradley, L. (2011), in the book: Second Language Teaching and Learning with Technology: View of Emergent Researchers. They convinced me one more time about using the mobile phone for academic purposes. They express in chapter 5, the use of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) and they talk about a research that it was conducted in Toronto with 12 students and it demonstrated the positive impact that the use of Mobile phones or iPods have in the field of education. According to the student´s feedback, teachers' instructions should be clearly stated when students are asked to use phone, because it could happen that the attention of L2 students could be distracted from the objectives of the class. They could get lost because in internet there are a great variety of information
